With Loot, a riotously absurd and anarchistic comedy, Joe Orton turned middle-class platitudes on their heads. In his short career from 1964 until his death in
‘67, this modern satirist shocked, outraged and entertained audiences with his scandalous black comedies. “Ortonesque” became a recognized term for the outrageously macabre.
