by Patrick Hamilton Directed by Patricia Inabnet Angel Street, also known as Gaslight, is a 5-character thriller set in London in the 1880’s. The story revolves around a young woman who fears she’s losing her mind and a detective obsessed with a 10-year old murder. At the time of its release in 1944, the Oscar-winning film was so popular that a new phrase entered the vernacular to refer to someone being fooled into thinking they’re crazy — “he’s gaslighting her.” Angel Street opened in December of 1938 at the Richmond Theatre in London. 2008 marked its 70th anniversary, and Masquers has been pleased to present it — in Richmond. |
