ARSENIC & OLD LACE

By Joseph Kesselring
Directed by Betsy Bell Ringer

It's the 1940's and the Brooklyn commmunity has nothing but kind feelings for the elderly Brewster sisters, who care for sick neighbors and are devoted Christian ladies. No one would ever suspect that these two dear ladies have a habit of poisoning gentlemen callers whom they perceive to be alone and lonely.

Mortimer's brother Teddy, who believes he is President Theodore Roosevelt, conveniently digs the Panama Canal in the basement to accommodate Abby and Martha's gentlemen. Their nephew Mortimer, who adores his aunts, is blissfully unaware of these activities. He is a theatre critic for the local paper and is engaged to Elaine Harper, daughter of the Reverend Dr. Harper. By all appearances the Brewster home is a haven of peace and tranquility. Into this mix comes Mortimer's sinister older brother Jonathan, who bears a striking resemblance to Boris Karloff. He has with him Dr. Herman Einstein, a plastic surgeon.
