Lady Windemere’s Fan by Oscar Wilde by Oscar Wilde
Directed by Patricia Inabnet

Reset to the 1950’s, this Victorian romance sparkles with Wilde’s trademark comedy-of-manners repartee and witty dialogue. Lord Darlington desperately wants to seduce Lady Windermere, who will have nothing of him, or at least not until she hears rumors that Lord Windermere is keeping time with a woman of questionable virtue. However, like so many other good stories, not everything is as it seems, and by the end, the twists have almost untwisted.

Oscar Wilde’s first play, Lady Windemere’s Fan confronts the hypocrisy of public morality compared with genuine, private kindness. When it opened in 1892, it was an instant success and now, over a century later, it continues to be revived frequently. The play’s witty dialogue contains many of Wilde’s most quoted aphorisms, its stylish setting provides opportunities for elegant presentation, and the cast of memorable characters play out a story which is genuinely moving.
