When it premiered in 1977, "The Shadow Box" won the Pulitzer prize for drama, the Drama Desk Outstanding New American Play award, and 4 Tony awards, including best play.In three cottages on the grounds of a large hospital, three tales unfold, at first serially, and then towards the end of each of the play's two acts, simultaneously. "It's all right," says the chorus of characters. And it is … finally. Each tale features a person who is dying. Each person is surrounded by loved ones. And all struggle to find a way to face their fate.
