GYPSY Has BEEN CANCELLED
This sucks. Gypsy is yet another show to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Try as we might, unfortunately, there was no way around it.
The April 27th announcement to extend the Bay Area shelter-in-place was the final straw. The spiraling effect on the Masquers construction project, integral to the timeline for re-opening, as well as the overwhelming uncertainty of everything surrounding COVID-19, Masquers is making the decision to clear their schedule for the next six months. Unfortunately, due to the production team’s prior commitments, the show was unable to be pushed into 2021. So the tough decision to cancel Gypsy had to be made.
As the director of this production I am especially sad to miss the opportunity to collaborate with Masquers on their grand re-opening as well as not have the pleasure of working with the exceptional talents of Armando Fox, Justin Cole and the remainder of the talented production team – Michael O’Brien, John Hull, and Vickie Zabarte. But, the saddest of all is not to have the opportunity to work with all of the talented performers, who so graciously submitted video auditions. There was a FABULOUS pool of talent. I hope that you will come play with us as soon as this bump in the road called COVID-19 is flattened.
I wish you all a safe journey over the next few months. Stay connected to the people you love, keep being creative, and please vote in November!
